Manual barriers vs. automatic barriers
Which barrier is best suited for parking lots?
As a welcoming business owner, you reserve parking spaces for visitors, suppliers and employees so they can park within walking distance of your property. To make sure they are the only ones using your offer and your parking does not become a public parking lot, you can have a barrier installed. This allows you to measure and control the use of your parking. But which barrier is the most suitable?
A barrier for access control
A barrier is the solution for those who want to close off a location temporarily or for a longer period from unauthorized persons. It focuses on motorized traffic: cars, motorcycles, (delivery) vans. You have two options: a manually controlled barrier or an automated model. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages.
We have listed them for you.
Manual barriers are easy to operate and do not require electricity to function. This makes them ideal for smaller parking lots or areas where electricity is not available. They are cheaper than automatic barriers when used short-term. They can therefore be an attractive option for temporary parking lots or budget-conscious business owners, for example. However, manual barriers are less safe because the driver has to open and close the barrier himself, which can lead to human error and accidents.
Automatic barriers, on the other hand, are easier and safer to use. They are equipped with sensors that detect the presence of vehicles and open and close automatically. This reduces the risk of accidents and makes access to the parking lot or area more efficient. In addition, the ability to operate the barrier via remote control or smartphone app provides additional convenience for users. The disadvantage of automatic barriers is that they are more expensive than manual barriers and require electricity to operate.
Which barrier is best suited for my parking lot?
So when choosing a barrier, Geran Access offers two options, but which barrier is best suited for your parking lot? First of all, it is good to know whether your access control is of a temporary nature or for long-term use. In the latter case, an automated model is a more economical choice. What you should also consider is that when installing a manual barrier, you need manpower to operate the boom, an automated barrier detects itself when guests are at your gate and then provides them access. In this way, it is best to weigh all the pros and cons to determine what is the best solution in your particular situation.
Barrier installation
A barrier needs a solid foundation. In most cases, it is placed on a concrete block. The casing, from which the arm hangs, is also weighted. This arm can be mounted on either the right or left and is between 2.6 and 6 meters long and equipped with the desired logic and a loop detector. Geran Access takes the entire installation out of your hands. Our installers arrange everything for you on site and ensure that your access control system is fully running when you leave.
